Best world to start new character in
IF a veteran player wanted to start a new character what would be a better world to start in, tyria or cantha? (sole purpose to prep a pve character into a pvp character)
keep in mind the speed at which you get your extra 30 attributes,
the time it takes to get skills free from quests vs time it takes to get 1k to buy the skill with the mass of skill points from canthan quests.
feel free to express your reasons why.

Personally I would pick Cantha for the faster levelling up, after which you could get run through tyria to get elite skills that you might need. Xp in cantha is faster as well so you can quickly build up skill points to buy the skills you want on that char.

I'd go with Cantha for the faster levels as well as the 15 point attribute quests which come pretty early. It's also easier to get max armor compared to Tyria, where you have to be ran everywhere until you get to Drok's. And you can always go back to Tyria from Cantha, so you can skip everything from Ascalon->LA.

Tyria will get you a lot of skills for free, Cantha will get you a lot of skill points but you have to buy the skills.

dgb has a point. I considered starting my monk in Tyria because you'll get a lot of skills from quests, but then again, getting to lvl 20 takes ages in Tyria.

When I make new characters, I simply can't fathom why I would pick Tyria over Cantha. XP comes much faster in Cantha, skill points are rewarded like crazy in Cantha, more skills are available earlier in Cantha, you pick and choose what skills to get when even though you have to pay BUT... gold is easier to make in Cantha.
So, yeah...

Well a lot of canthan characters look crap, when i start a warrior im gonna start in prophecies as the cathan warrior faces look stupid to say the least, same goes for male eles and monks.
you can port back over into cantha fairly fast for the high XP or power lvl in droks.

Quoted for truth. This is my prefered method for developing a RPG character ready for PvP combat.

I agree with you, it is all about the looks. I made a Canthan Mesmer just because the female looks better. You can get run to LA for fairly cheap if you start a Tyrian character. Then find a group and go do some quests. Soon you'll be level 20, and can just get a run to the desert for the 15 att. point quests. Likewise, you can get to Kaineng pretty early on with your Canthan character and port over to LA for the skill quests. It is all about the looks.

I started in Tyria for the free skills and stuff sooner then once i got out of pre at lv 4 got a run to lions arch jumped to cantha and did the quests there to level quicker.
Also I was getting bored of having to do the missions on the island.

So..where are the ppl who were complaining about leveling up so fast in cantha that doesn't give them chance for enjoying the game and blah blah blah...!!
since that most of us like this fast leveling up system..i hope they do it again in ch.3

What quests are you talking about? All the quests in Cantha are aimed at high lvl players.

I created a Tyrian character, then got a run to LA and entered Cantha at lvl 2 thinking it would be easier to level more quickly, get max armor and skills more easily also. This was before they allowed Canthan characters to go back and do the Tyrian missions earlier than D'Elessio Seaboard, so I thought I had that beat too since I could use this character to do those old Tyrian missions too.
But then I forgot about the difficulty of the extra 15 att quests in Tyria vs Cantha. And also the fact that no one wants anything below a lvl 20 in their party in Vizunah Square, and if you try to hench it, the other team leaves. So I'm forced to go back and do Tyrian missions and quests for 5 more levels (I've done all the Kaineng Center quests).

With 7 LV 20 henchmen nothing is hard, i did THK at lv 10 with the henchmen cause i needed a skill, the quest on cantha are not hard for a low level to do. Anyone that can't do then doesn't no how to use henchmen effectively

I recently started a new Mesmer in Tyria, because I don't want him to be Asiatic. I also started in Tyria so that I could get all the free skills from quests.
I did, however, get ran up to Lions Arch, and hopped over to Kaineng Center in Cantha to easily get max (60AL) armor, because it's easier (and cheaper) than getting ran to Droknar's Forge. (And, some of the new Canthan armors for Mesmers look pretty good.)
Honestly, there's easy xp obtained either way, and I think the Tyria stuff is more entertaining than the Shing Jea island stuff. Shing Jea has the benefit of getting you to it faster and is more compact, but, IMO, zzzz.... snooze city. Ch1's campaign was just written so much more imaginatively than Ch2's campaign was. Ch1 = Let's make an awesome campaign world, with lots of stuff going on... Ch2 = OMG AZNS R SO COOL... LOLOLOL. Meh.

I would rather have more skill quests and less skill points, than less skill quests and more skill points because I never have had a problem of shortages of skill points.

you can still get free skills in tyria as canthan up until you finally get to crystal desert... places like lions arch, beetletun, fishermen's haven, druids overlook etc, all give you free skills
